Our family is going through the most difficult time of our lives.
My mother underwent extremely complex neurological surgery to remove a tumor located in a very delicate region of the brain, near the brainstem and structures responsible for movement, speech, swallowing, and vital functions.
The surgery was long and very delicate. After the procedure, she needed to remain hospitalized in the ICU and faced a very intense post-operative period, with significant loss of movement on her right side, difficulty speaking, swallowing, and performing basic activities.
These were days of great anguish and uncertainty. Gradually, she began to show signs of recovery: she started speaking some words and phrases again, recognizing her family, laughing, interacting, and recently she was able to eat pureed food again by mouth.
