My name is Emily, and I’m writing this with a broken heart for my mom, Susan.
My mom has never smoked but she is now fighting stage 4 lung cancer that has spread to her brain. Hearing that broke our family. It feels impossible to understand how someone who has already suffered so much can now be fighting cancer in two of the most dangerous places in the body.
Her journey started after a terrible day that changed everything. The same day she lost her spouse to cancer, she was also in a car accident. At the hospital, doctors found a nodule in her lung. Months later, it was confirmed to be lung cancer.
Since then, my mom’s life has been filled with surgery, scans, pain, infections, treatments, fear, and hospital bills. She had part of her lung removed, lymph nodes taken out, and later found out the cancer was still attacking her body.
