My name is Hakimi, and I am from Nigeria.
I was born with a body that never gave me the chance to walk like other people. My arms and legs are severely atrophied, and I cannot stand, walk, work, or take care of myself the way I wish I could.
Every single day, I move by dragging my body across the dirty floor like an animal. People see my videos and smile, but they don’t see the real pain behind them. They don’t see the open wounds and sores on my skin from dragging myself every day, the constant burning pain, the exhaustion, the shame, or the moments when I cry alone because I feel completely trapped inside my own broken body.
I come from a very poor family. There are days when we don’t have enough food to eat. Hunger is constant. Some nights I go to sleep with an empty stomach, my body weak and in pain, wondering how much longer I can keep going like this while my family struggles to survive.
